Friday Night FUNdraiser with Julie Kelly-Smith Fri, Mar 31, 2017 at 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm

Once each month, we will come together on a Friday evening to practice together with added purpose, raising funds, goods, and awareness for various charities that are dear to our SWEATy family. This is a donation-based, one hour FUN, funky, and themed flow. 
March's Friday Night FUNdraiser will be taught by Julie Kelly-Smith and will support Women To Be. Women To Be is a local nonprofit that fabricates and distributes "kits" containing feminine hygiene products to girls in developing countries. These products are a major contributing factor in allowing girls to stay in school and learn a skill. Women To Be also provides sex education and calendars to help girls avoid unintended pregnancy. Women To Be has distributed over 2,000 kits in remote areas of Nepal and Guatemala, and hope to travel next to Ghana.
Julie's theme is "Females Are Strong As Hell".
Bring your cash donations, your energy, and a full heart to this purposeful and FUN hour of yoga.

Deities and Chanting with Carrie Post Sat, Apr 1, 2017 at 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Kirtan (chanting) is an ancient form of Yoga known as Bhakti, or the Yoga of Devotion. In this workshop, we will explore the different styles of chanting, from the simplest "om" to the more complex multi-versed kirtan chants. As we learn the chants, we will also learn about the mythology of the Deities that the chants are about. There is no need for any previous experience with chanting, or any musical abilities in order to attend the workshop. This class will be an opportunity to examine your relationship with yoga in a new way. It will be an opportunity to deepen and sweeten your practice. Kirtan is for all people. There are no masters of kirtan, or experts, no teachers, no advanced students, or beginners. The practice itself is the teacher, guiding us to ourselves.

When we think about mediation, we often think of a mind that is empty of thoughts. It turns out that the secret to meditation is not the absence of thoughts, but rather the acceptance of thoughts. As we accept our thoughts, our relationship with them starts to change, and that is the practice of meditation. In this workshop, Carrie Post will help to demystify the practice of mediation so that you can start to cultivate a meditation practice of your own.
