Who We Are

A family studio in the heart of Albuquerque

13 years in Albuquerque. We bring the heat. You bring the SWEAT.

Our Mission

Hot yoga for every body, every walk of life

SWEAT is a family studio in the heart of Albuquerque, and the door is open to everyone. You don't need to be flexible, experienced, or brave. You just need to walk in. There's a mat here for you.

The mission is simple. Keep the room at 97 degrees with real steam humidity, teach honest yoga, and send every student home a little stronger and a little calmer than they walked in.

Hot yoga is intended to heal the body from every angle. We offer a variety of classes, and the hot room is heated to 97°F to increase movement in the muscles and detoxification through sweating. Practicing hot yoga also promotes mental and physical health far beyond what you might imagine.

For those focused on healing and meditation, we highly recommend our restorative yoga classes.

Hot yoga is for everyBODY. Come SWEAT with us.

Meet Marisa & David

Husband and wife. Native New Mexicans. Yoga lovers.

Marisa and David Johnson came to yoga via different paths, but together they cultivated the dream of teaching it. They are the well-loved owners of SWEAT Yoga Studio in Albuquerque, both RYT 200 and RYT 300 trained through SWEAT Yoga School.

David Johnson

From triathlons to the hot room

David has been a top athlete all his life. Varsity sports, long distance races, triathlons, CrossFit, cycling. He was first introduced to yoga in 2013 by Marisa, while vacationing in Tulum, Mexico at a resort where yoga was offered in an outdoor palapa at the beach.

That was the first time David had ever taken a yoga class, and he was immediately hooked. He returned from that trip and dove head first into his home yoga practice, teaching himself in his Placitas garage studio for a year before venturing out to the best commercial hot yoga studio in Albuquerque. SWEAT.

Marisa Johnson

Raised in meditation. Found in the heat.

Marisa was raised by parents who practiced yoga and meditation daily throughout her childhood. When she was young, her father, a psychologist and professor at UNM, taught her how to "time travel." In his study, a cozy room set on the second floor of a 200 year-old adobe hacienda in Placitas, New Mexico, she would lay down on giant floor pillows, surrounded by hundreds of old books and crystal globes.

As she closed her eyes he would ring a bell and tell her to use her mind to travel out into the world, focusing energy and breath on where she wanted to go. After a few minutes passed, he would ring the bell again and tell her to journey back. Little did she know, this was her first introduction to meditation.

Surrounded by healthy habits her whole life, she always maintained a love of yoga and holistic living. It wasn't until she became an adult and found SWEAT Yoga Studio that she cultivated a daily commitment to yoga.

Hot Yoga Is For everyBODY

Whoever you are. Whatever you bring.

Beginners. Lifers. New moms. Retired triathletes. Kids. Couples. Whoever walks in. You belong on a mat at SWEAT.

The Johnson Family

Their happy place.
Yours, too.

David and Marisa took their first hot yoga class right here in this room. It has been their happy place ever since. Practicing together at SWEAT over the years has kept them strong and steady, and it brought them a community that keeps learning and growing alongside them.

You can catch them on the mat with their two sons, Avery and Ethan. SWEAT is, and always has been, a family studio.
